Héctor Floría (Blanes), began his musical journey at the age of six at the Santa Maria de Blanes School of Music, where he was an active member of both the band and the cobla.
Before dedicating himself fully to the saxophone, Héctor earned a degree in Telecommunications Engineering with a specialization in Sound and Image (UPC) and later completed a Master’s in Sound Technologies (UPF).
He resumed his artistic path at the Escola de Música Moderna de Badalona (EMMB), studying under Carles Vecino and Martí Serra. He then pursued Jazz Saxophone studies at the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya (EsMUC), where he studied for two years with Eladio Reinón before moving to Amsterdam to complete a Bachelor’s Degree in Jazz at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. There, he received lessons from renowned musicians such as Ferdinand Povel, Simon Rigter, Dick Oatts, Mark Turner, Tim Warfield, and Ben Van Gelder, among others.
Héctor’s professional career took off in Amsterdam with the group Irene Reig & The Bop Collective, winners of the “Publicsprijs” at the Dutch Jazz Competition 2018, performing at major jazz festivals across Europe. With The Bop Collective, he has recorded three albums: The Bop Collective (2018), Iaspis (2019), and Decisió i Coratge (2023).
As a bandleader, Héctor has released Phanerozoic (TC025, 2023) and Coordenades (TC036, 2025). He also leads smaller ensembles such as the HF Trio and the Floría/Casares Duo, as well as the supergroup Firewash featuring Perico Sambeat, which debuted with Firewash (TC026) in 2022.
In 2019, Héctor co-founded The Changes, a collective and record label created with a group of friends. Since then, it has released 36 albums and launched the Cicle de Jazz del Deskomunal, now in its fifth edition.
